2019 School Board Election election

Burbank School District 111 will have three school board seats to be filled at the April 2, 2019 Consolidated Election.  Candidates who are elected will fill four-year terms expiring in April 2023.

At-Risk Pre-School Screenings pre-school screening

Burbank School District 111 will be conducting a Developmental Screening for 3-4 year old children.  The purpose of the screening is to determine the educational needs of your child.  Qualified personnel will conduct a developmental screening in the following areas:  Motor Development, Speech/Language, Thinking Skills, and Vision/Hearing.  Click here for more information.

SCHOOL CLOSED NOVEMBER 26 closed

Due to the inclement weather, all District 111 schools will be closed Monday, November 26th.  Twelve month employees must report to work.

FY2019 Sex Equity Evaluation: Parent/Community Member Input survey

According to the Sex Equity Rules (23 Illinois Administrative Code 200), school districts are required to periodically conduct a thorough evaluation of their policies, practices, programs and activities to assess their compliance with the Sex Equity Rules. A sex equity evaluation must be completed at least every four calendar years.

Liberty Drama Club Presents... Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach drama

Liberty Drama Club presents two of our favorite stories by Roald Dahl: "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "James and the Giant Peach."  Performances will be on November 16 and 17 at 7:00 pm at Liberty Junior High School.

All Star Games Update volleyball

On behalf of Burbank School District 111, we would like to congratulate the Liberty Junior High Patriots for their victory in the championship round at the All Star Games Staff Volleyball Tournament.  We would also like to congratulate the Kennedy Falcons for winning the Spirit Award.  Thank you to everyone that participated, whether you played on the volleyball court or cheered for your team on the sidelines, it was quite a fun event!

Burbank All Star Games volleyball

The Burbank All Star Games will be held on Saturday, November 3 at Liberty Junior High School.  The staff volleyball tournament will begin at 10:00 am in the gym and the bean bag tournament begin at 10:30 am in the MPR.

On Saturday, October 13, Burbank School District 111 is hosting the Annual Fall Into Fitness Wellness Fair including a 5k Fun Run/Walk.  Join us for the entire 5k race or join us for a few laps!   All fitness levels are encouraged to come out and participate.   

 

Supply Fee Deadline Extended deadline

The deadline to pay supply fees has been extended.  Late fees will not be incurred until Monday, October 15.  Payments can be submitted to the school office through Friday, October 12 or online with E-pay through our district website.    ​​

Reavis HS Fall Arts & Crafts Fair craft fair

Mark your calendars! The Reavis Fall Arts and Craft Show is Saturday, October 6 from 9 am to 3 pm! Back to School Rally rally

The Back to School Rally is Saturday, September 8 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Liberty.  We'll be on the North Field outside Door #8.  This is a family friendly event to celebrate the new school year!  Show your school spirit and wear your school colors or spirit wear!

Liberty Softball Tryouts - August 29 softball

Liberty Junior High School will be hosting tryouts for boys and girls softball for students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.  Softball tryouts will be held on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 29 from 3:30 - 7:00 pm at Liberty.  If you do not have a current sports physical on file, please bring it with to tryouts.

The Burbank School Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held August 22 at 1:00 pm.  The community has been instrumental in the planning and designing of the New Burbank School.  It is amazing to see the plans become reality!

Seamless Summer Food Program lunch

When school is out, thousands of children must search for nutritious meals – and too often these meals cannot be found at home.  USDA’s Summer Food Service Program and Seamless Summer Option help bridge the gap by providing FREE food to children at various sites in the community during the summer.

Burbank School Furniture Available school desk

Furniture from Burbank School will be available to the community on Friday, June 1 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.   Items such as student desks/chairs, teacher desks/chairs, and office furniture will be offered to the community at no charge.  All items are “AS IS” and first come first served.  All items must be taken the same day. 

Reavis Hosts Youth Soccer Camp Reavis

Reavis High School is hosting a Youth Soccer Camp for Ages 5-14.  The camp will be held at Reavis June 4-7, 2018 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm.  The cost is $30.

Gallery 111 - Digital Art Exhibit art gallery

Burbank School District 111's Art Exhibition was held on May 9, 2018.  The artwork of our outstanding artists was displayed and proudly exhibited for everyone to view and admire.  Three winners were selected from each school and those pieces are currently on display in the board room at the Administration Building.  

Reavis Dance Team Tryouts Dance Team

The Reavis Ramettes will be holding try-outs on May 21st and 22nd!  All interested students are encouraged to try out.  Pick up a try-out packet in the Athletic Office and have it completed and ready to turn in at the start of our Dance Clinic on May 21st.

Maddock is Building a Playground! Kaboom Logo

Help Maddock Elementary School build a playground in partnership with KaBOOM!, Disney, and ESPN!  A total of approximately 200 volunteers is required to build this playground and we need everyone to signup.  

Summer Teen Mixers at the Water Park pool

Fry School Presents Beauty and the Beast Jr. Beauty and the Beast

Join us for Fry School's production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr.   The show goes on Friday, May 18 at 7:00 pm at Liberty Junior High School.  Presale tickets are $3.00 and tickets at the door are $4.00.  Refreshments will be available for purchase prior to the play.  All proceeds from tickets and concessions benefit the Fry Drama program.

St. Baldrick's Day - March 14 Baldrick

Burbank School District 111 is proud to announce our Fifth Annual St. Baldrick's Fundraiser to raise money to fund lifesaving research in the fight against childhood cancers. Over the past four year our families and staff have raised over $125,000 to help provide a brighter future for children with cancer and this year we hope to raise an additional $40,000 for children in need.

Reavis Dance Camp Fundraiser dance

District 111 Spelling Bee bee

Students in 4th through 8th grade competed in the Thirty-fifth Annual Spelling Bee of Burbank School District 111.  The district finals were held on January 17th at Liberty Junior High School.  Mona B. of Tobin School won the honor of being the 2018 District 111 Spelling Champion.  Marwa K. of Burbank School was the runner-up.  The winning word for the spelling bee was “mascot.”

The Reavis Cheerleaders will be sponsoring a Father Daughter Sweetheart Dance on February 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the cafeteria at Reavis High School.  All District 111 K-6 female students and their dads.

Young Authors Contest Author

District 111 is hosting a Young Authors Contest again this year.  The contest is open to all kindergarten through 8th grade students and begins December 19.  The Young Authors Contest promotes writing and creativity by encouraging children to write an original story and present it in book form.

On Friday, December 8, 2017 Burbank School District 111 held its Fourth Annual Talent Show.  The stage was filled with talent from every school.  Almost every seat in the house was filled with family, friends and staff.  We are so proud of all our students that performed in our talent show!

Public Service Announcement - Phone Scams Burbank Police logo

The Burbank Police Department has been made aware of a couple of incidents (Phone Scams) over the past couple of days where an unknown individual(s) has called a resident impersonating a loved one or has stated they are holding a loved one for ransom. Both calls seem to have a Carbondale, Illinois phone number. The phone number belonged to AT&T on a prepaid number. However; in both incidents, the calls seem to be originating from Puerto Rico based on the information this department has received.

The Women's Auxiliary Council 14553 of the Knights of Columbus is organizing a community coat drive.   Please donate your gently used coats, scarves, hats, boots, gloves and any winter clothing in all sizes.  The collection boxes will be at Byrd, Fry, Maddock, and Tobin Schools Monday, October 16 through Friday, October 20.  Families in need may pick up items on Saturday, October 21 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at Harnew School, 9101 S. Town Hall Meetings - Liberty Addition town hall

District 111 is considering building an addition and moving sixth grade students to Liberty Junior High School.  The district would use its bonding capacity to fund the project.  Moving sixth grade to Liberty would alleviate crowding at elementary schools across the district as well as increase efficiency in curriculum.   Click here for more information.

Mark your calendars...  Back to School Nights are early this year.  The Back to School Night for elementary schools will be August 15 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.  Having an open house the day before school will give students and families a chance to meet their teacher and drop off school supplies.  Liberty Junior High will host their Back to School Night on August 16 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.  We hope to see you there!

Effective June 9 - August 4, 2017, the district office hours are as follows:  Monday thru Thursday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm and closed on Fridays.  

Last Day of School - Friday, June 2 summer

FRIDAY, June 2nd is the last day of school and a half day of attendance. Elementary students will be released at 11:15 am and junior high students will be released at 11:45 a.m. Report cards will be sent home with students on Thursday. Have a fun and safe summer! See you again in August.

The artwork of our outstanding artists was displayed and proudly  exhibited for everyone to view and admire.  Three winners were selected from each school and those pieces are currently on display in the board room at the Administration Building.

Victor Pacini's purpose is to design unique experiences that inspire and teach children to create, value, and share their confident voice with the world.  He has taken his passion for singing to a new and exciting level by designing life changing inspirational programs for young people.  By incorporating the skills that he mastered while earning a degree in graphic design, he has created several multi-dimensional programs that present thought provoking concepts and lessons through original songs, captivating graphics and images.  He will be inspiring the students at Liberty Junior High School on Friday, April 28th at 2:00 pm as the key note speaker during career day.

As you know, there were power outage issues at Liberty which resulted in transporting students to Reavis High School today.  We’d like to thank Superintendent Dan Riordan and the Reavis staff, Liberty faculty and staff, district office staff and the Burbank Police Department for their efforts during this situation.  The collaboration between the schools and the community made it a seamless process.  We would also like to thank our families for their patience and cooperation.  The safety and well-being of our students is always a top priority.

Liberty Students Receive Lesson on GMOs via FaceTime gmo

On Friday, February 10, 2017, Liberty Junior High Resource Teacher, Mrs. Browne, invited Genetic Scientist, Mrs. Ehlert, to participate in a class discussion, via a FaceTime conference call, to help address the issue of genetically modified organisms or GMOs.  As a result of this real life experience, so many students were motivated and empowered to keep researching, on their own, and continue on their learning quest about GMOs and other equally important issues in science.

District 111 is hosting a Young Authors Contest again this year.  The contest is open to all kindergarten through 8th grade students and entries are due January 20.  The Young Authors Contest promotes writing and creativity by encouraging children to write an original story and present it in book form.

Governor Pat Quinn signed into law House Bill 6193, or Erin’s Law, on January 24, 2013.  This law mandates that Illinois public schools extend their current mandated educational programs regarding personal safety, abuse education and prevention curriculum to students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grades.  The goal of the law is to teach children to avoid situations that may lead to abuse and to report any instances of abuse they may have endured.

Daniel Dancer operates an artist program called Art For The Sky.  It is a unique team building and perception activity that deepens the students' relationship to the sky, earth and one another.  Dr. Sheehan and the Tobin Team worked together with the entire community to learn about the power of collaboration and the beauty of our interconnection to all life.

District 111 Welcomes New Board Member announcement

A special board meeting was held September 13 to interview seven candidates for our board member vacancy.  All residents who submitted letters of interest were interviewed.  The board was impressed with each applicant’s quality of thought and vision for 111.  After much deliberation; we are pleased to announce the board of education unanimously appointed Trish Saunders.

Two Day Cheer Camp

Calling All Future Rams!  Reavis High School's Cheerleading Squad will be hosting a two day cheer camp! Campers will attend a cheer clinic on October 13 to go over some cheer basics and also learn a routine. They will perform their short routine during the varsity half-time show on October 14.

Construction Kick-Off Meetings - UPDATE

Construction Kick-off Meetings have been held with several groups to gather information about the design and construction of the New Luther Burbank School.  The architects from Cannon Design presented modern design ideas and discussed current trends in education.  They've been able to gather invaluable information from these interactive and collaborative meetings.  Here's a few pictures and details from the meetings that have been held.    

Reavis STEM Camp for 6th & 7th Graders STEM

Reavis High School will be hosting a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Camp for sixth and seventh grade students from June 14th to June 16th.  Sessions will run from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.   Students who attend this camp will learn about electricity, discover ways to generate electricity, and build electrical devices.  Students will also develop critical thinking and problem solving skills in a fun environment.  The camp will be hands-on, project-oriented and action packed.   There is no cost to attend but space is limited to the first 30 students who apply.   If you are interested in registering your son or daughter for this camp please call Mr. LaMantia at Reavis High School at 708-599-7200 Ext. 201.  

2016 Summer Chess Camp

The Southwest Chicago Chess Club is offering a Summer Chess Camp in Burbank.  Join the club to learn or improve your game of chess.  The camp is open to ages 5 - 13, beginner to intermediate players.  Stickney Township will be supplying a tournament chess set to keep. 

Summer School Bus Routes bus

The following bus routes will be offered to the students attending Summer School June 6-16.   All of the students enrolled in the program may take the bus of their choice.  If you choose, you may drive or walk your child to Tobin School, 8501 S. Narragansett.  Busses will drop off in the rear lot of the school, parents may use the front lot to bring their child to school.   Click here for the complete route list.

Construction Kick-Off Meeting for Perimeter Residents cone

We understand that residents who own homes around the perimeter of Burbank School may have some unique concerns regarding the construction.  Please join us for an interactive and collaborative meeting to gather information about the design and construction of the New Luther Burbank School.  This Construction Kick-off Meeting will be held Wednesday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the District Office, 7600 S. Summer Teen Mixers at the Water Park swim

Burbank Park District will be hosting two summer teen mixers at the Burbank Water Park on July 27 and August 17 from 8:15 to 10:00 p.m.  Entrance is $5 at the door for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders only.

Multicultural Night Video culture

District 111's Third Annual Multicultural Night was held April 14.  The event was organized by the PAC Committee which includes administrators, staff, and parents.  Over 35 countries are represented in District 111.  Here's a video highlighting the evening's events.

St. Baldrick's Day Update st. baldricks

The top five St. Baldrick's Day fundraisers were recognized by the board of education at the April 27 board meeting.  Our Third Annual St. Baldrick's Day fundraiser was held on March 18 with a goal to raise $40,000.  With special thanks to our numerous event organizers, 100 sponsors, 40 ponytail donors, and 75 shavees, we are proud to announce that the total amount raised this year was $47,870.81. 

Burbank School Construction Focus Groups - Updated!

We are pleased to announce that firms have been selected for architectural services and construction management.  We look forward to working with Cannon Design and International Contractors, Inc. as we move along in the planning phase.  The administration is continuing to meet with various focus groups to gather input regarding what they'd like to see in the new building.  We will continue to post updates as we move along in this process.  Click here to view notes from some focus groups that have already met.

Red Nose Day - May 26 red nose

Red Nose Day is a campaign dedicated to helping children and having fun.  Proceeds benefit children and young people in poverty in the US and some of the poorest communities in the world.  Red Nose Day is Thursday, May 26 - our last day of school!  What better way to celebrate a great school year than to support a worthy cause.  All schools will be selling red noses for $1.00.  For more information about Red Nose Day, please visit www.rednoseday.org.

 

Fry School Presents "Annie KIDS" May 5

The sun will come out tomorrow......when Fry School's theatre group presents its production of Annie KIDS on Thursday, May 5th 7:00 p.m. at Liberty Junior High School, 5900 West 81st Street.  Based on the popular comic strip, “Little Orphan Annie,” Annie KIDS tells of a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents, who left her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan.

The next Burbank Park District Teen Mixer is Friday, April 15 at Liberty from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. 6-8th grade students only. $5 at the door with valid school ID.

Burbank School Construction Update

District 111 posted a Request for Qualifications for Architectural Services and Construction Management Firms.  The submissions received were narrowed down to four firms from each category.  Building tours and interviews will be held the week of April 11.  A final decision will be made at the April 27 regular board meeting.      

Focused Monitoring Public Forum

Our district has been selected by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) for a focused monitoring review of the educational placement decisions for students with disabilities.  The selection of our district was based on district data that we submitted to ISBE.  The purpose of focused monitoring is to investigate compliance with federal and state special education laws and regulations. 

District 111 Graduates Receive Chick Evans Scholarships

The Reavis High School Guidance Department has announced that Kevin McDonald and Mohamad Zeid have been selected as Chick Evans Scholars!  Chick Evans is a rigorous scholarship in which those selected are granted a full ride scholarhsip for all four years to an Evans college/university. 

District 111 Art Exhibition 2016

District 111 is hosting a district-wide art exhibition on May 12 at Prairie Trails Public Library.  Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade are eligible to participate.  Submissions are due April 22, 2016.

Request for Qualifications

The Board of Education for Burbank School District 111 is soliciting Statements of Interest and Qualifications from qualified firms to provide comprehensive Construction Management Services and Architectural Services for the construction of a new elementary school building.

At-Risk Pre-School Screening

Burbank School District 111 will be conducting a Developmental At-Risk Pre-School Screening for children ages 3-4.  The purpose of the screening is to determine the educational needs of your child.  Qualified personnel will conduct a developmental screening in the following areas:  Motor Development, Speech and Language, Thinking Skills, Vision and Hearing.

Reavis High School Referendum reavis

St. Baldrick's Day

Burbank School District 111 is proud to host the Third Annual St. Baldrick’s Day fundraiser event on Wednesday, March 16 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Liberty Junior High.  St. Baldrick’s is an amazing non-profit organization that is devoted to the elimination of pediatric cancers. 

With Heartfelt Sympathy

We are truly saddened to announce the passing of Jack Lawlor, former employee and student, and son of Dawn Lawlor, teacher at Burbank School.  Jack was a beloved student at Maddock School and Liberty Junior High School.  He also began work as a summer help employee at several schools this past summer.  Jack continued as a part-time custodian with District 111 until he accepted a new job just this past month.         

Open Door with the Administration

Open Door with the Administration is a chance to meet with administrators of Burbank School District 111 to discuss ideas, concerns, or get answers to questions. We welcome conversations with everyone. The next Open Door session will be held Monday, February 1 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the District Office - 7600 S. Central Ave.

District 111 Spelling Bee

Students in 4th through 8th grade competed in the Thirty-third Annual Spelling Bee of Burbank School District 111.  The district finals were held on January 20th at Liberty Junior High School.  A sixth grade student of McCord School won the honor of being the 2016 District 111 Spelling Champion. 

Super Hero of the Week

Our Super Hero of the week is Jessica Munoz, Byrd School PTO President!  Over the summer, Mrs. Munoz applied for and won the opportunity for Byrd School to be selected to participate in the Chicago Blackhawks Get Out And Learn (G.O.A.L) youth hockey program.  

Burbank Elementary School Referendum

Burbank School District 111 will have a Referendum on the ballot for the March 15, 2016 election for the construction of a new building for Luther Burbank Elementary School.  Town Hall Meetings have been scheduled to provide information to the public regarding the upcoming Referendum.

Young Authors Contest

District 111 is hosting a Young Authors Contest again this year.  The contest is open to all kindergarten through 8th grade students and begins January 8.  The Young Authors Contest promotes writing and creativity by encouraging children to write an original story and present it in book form.

Special Gifts gift

Ancient History Parodies at Maddock School

On Friday December 11, 2015 the 6th grade students, in Ms. Krzystof's class at Maddock School, enjoyed a concert of "Ancient History Parodies" by Mr. Dan Nicky. He is a certified teacher that has been performing his unique brand of educational music for ten years in the United States and Indonesia. He infuses each of his songs with fun learning opportunities by taking popular radio songs and changing the lyrics to describe ancient civilizations such as Egypt, China, Greece and Rome.

Talent Show Video

On Friday December 4, 2015 Burbank School District 111 held its 2nd annual Talent Show.  The stage was filled with talent from every school.  Almost every seat in the house was filled with family, friends and staff.  We are so proud of all our students that performed in our talent show! 

 

Random Acts of Kindness
Please read this amazing story about the kindness and generosity of one of our very own Burbank School District 111 fifth grade students. In the spirit of the season last week, "Gerardo" thought of all of his blessings and reasons to be thankful. While reflecting on this, he thought of all those less fortunate, those who wouldn't have a Thanksgiving. He decided that he'd use his remaining birthday money, $30.00 to purchase as much food as he could afford, and distribute it to the homeless people downtown.

District 111's Got Talent!  Students across the district in fifth through eighth grade will showcase a variety of talents on Friday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. 

Prairie Trails Library Winter Events

Prairie Trails Library is hosting several Winter Events for children, teens, and families.  Registration is required for the following youth and teen events unless otherwise noted.  To register you must have a Prairie Trails Public Library card. You can register online or in person, we do not register over the phone. An adult can register up to three children on one adult library card IN PERSON only. Registration begins the week of Monday, November 30th at 9:00 a.m.

Byrd School Teacher Wins STEM Grant

Byrd 6th Grade Teacher Mr. Ed Fialek applied for a STEM grant and won the opportunity for himself and 3 other teachers, Mrs O'Riordan, Mrs. Hammad, and Miss Russell, to participate in the Energizing Student Potential (ESP) program, a STEM-focused energy program for grades 5 - 8. This program will help their school meet Next generation Science Standards goals, engage students in learning about energy within STEM, and help energize the energy workforce of tomorrow.

The Cook County Department of Environmental Control reminds you to be aware of the health risks of  radon.  Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that comes from the radioactive decay of naturally occurring uranium in the soil. Reavis Cheer Camp

Calling All Future Rams!  Reavis High School's Cheerleading Squad will be hosting a two day cheer camp!  Campers will attend a cheer clinic on Thursday, September 10 to go over some cheer basics and also learn a routine.  They will perform their short routine alongside our cheerleaders during halftime of the varsity football game on September 11!

Burbank School District 111 will be holding a Garage Sale on Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  The sale will be held in the district office warehouse (in the rear of building) at 7600 South Central Avenue.

Grief Support for Students

As you may have heard, one of our students, Kayla Kreil, has passed away.  She was a beloved third grade student at Maddock School.  This is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends and we understand that her fellow classmates may need some additional attention or support.

Public Hearing for Burbank School

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Board of Education of Burbank School District 111 in the County of Cook, State of Illinois, that a public hearing will be held to discuss the options for renovating Luther Burbank School and receive public comment.  The public hearing will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at Luther Burbank School, 8235 S. Reavis High School Summer Sports Camps

Reavis High School is offering a variety of sports camps this summer.  Brochures are available in all District 111 schools.  There are options for students in Kindergarten through high school.        

Board of Education Update

At a special board meeting on April 29, the elected board members took the Oath of Office and the Board of Education reorganized for the 2015-17 term.  Burbank School District 111 welcomes Jessica Williams as our newest board member.  

 
 
Chicago Bandits Academic Night

The Chicago Bandits will be hosting their 2015 Academic Night on Saturday, June 6 at 7:35 pm Vs. the Akron Racers.  Tickets are only $7.

Community Use of Facilities

Policy 8:20 - Community Use of Facilities has been updated.  Local organizations will now get the first ten days free and must pay fees for days used after that.  The ten free days will be per organization and not per individual teams within the organization.  

District 111 Historical Documents
Mr. Ray Tieri is a former Burbank School District 111 board member from 1974. He presented the school board with pieces of our school district's history on Wednesday April 22, 2015. These pieces included school board ledgers from 1927, class photos from the 1920's and 1930's, and other historical documents that Mr. Tieri has preserved over the years. Thank You Mr. Tieri for your contribution to our district and community! 
 
2nd Annual Multi-Cultural Night

Open Forums and Town Hall Meetings

Burbank School District 111 will be hosting Open Forums and Town Hall Meetings to inform parents, community members, and all stakeholders of the options for renovating Luther Burbank School.  Open Forums will include a "Walk & Talk" tour of Burbank School.  Town Hall Meetings will include a presentation and an opportunity for public comment.

Garden Center Super Sunny 5K

The Garden Center in Burbank will be hosting the Super Sunny 5K and Walk N Roll-a-Thon on Saturday, June 6.  All proceeds will benefit programs for adults with developmental disabilities at Garden Center Services.   The race will begin at Newcastle Park at 8:30 am.  

Career Day Speakers Wanted

On Friday, May 15, 2015, Liberty Junior High (LJH) will be hosting a Career Day for their students.  The purpose of this day is to show the students of LJH all of the wonderful and fulfilling career choices that await them in the future.  We are asking community members to come and share their careers with the students.  

Band Program Bake Sale

District 111's Band Program will be having a bake sale at Liberty during the Solo & Ensemble Contest Saturday, March 21.  All items must be dropped off before 9:30 am.  Items can be homemade or store bought.   All donations are welcome!  Please remember to mark any items that contain nuts (peanuts, walnuts etc.)  Thank you for supporting the District 111 Band Program!

Part-time On-Call Substitute Custodians Wanted

District 111 currently has openings for Part-time On-Call Substitute Custodians.  The salary is $11.07 per hour.  Applicants must have custodial experience, must be able to lift 50 pounds, must be detailed oriented, and must be able to work on an on-call basis. 

Re-Dedication of the Louis S. Viverito Senior Center

Township Supervisor Louis S. Viverito and the Stickney Board of Trustees cordially invite you to the re-dedication of the Louis S. Viverito Senior Center.  The re-dedication will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at 7745 S. Leamington in Burbank.  There will be building tours, refreshments, an informational fair, and giveaways. 

St. Baldrick's Day Update

District 111 will host its Second Annual St. Baldrick’s and Locks of Love event next Wednesday, March 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Liberty Junior High. The night’s events will include guest speakers, head-shaving and pony-tail donations, games, crafts, a performance by the Liberty Junior High Dance Team, and much more.

Feeding with Reading Food Drive Extended Until February 28

Burbank School District 111 presents "Feeding with Reading."  Our students read 20,000 books!  Help us collect 20,000 food items!  All food collected will go to local food pantries. Food collection extended until February 28!!!

Vote for your Favorite Farmers' Market Logo

Stickney Township is in the planning stage of a Farmers’ Market right here in Burbank at 5635 State Road in the Stickney Public Health parking lot. The Farmers’ Market will be from mid-June thru early October on every Wednesday from 2:00 till 7:00.

Reavis Drama Club Clothes for the Cause Fundraiser clothes

Reavis High School Drama Club is holding a Clothes for the Cause fundraiser on April 11 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Reavis in the Circle Drive (Faces 77th Street and Austin). 

Comcast Internet Essentials for Students Receiving Free Lunch

Comcast has introduced a program for students who are on 'free school lunch program’ called Internet Essentials.  This program offers Internet service to qualifying families for $9.95 a month.  This program also offers a computer that is capable of using the Internet for $150.

District 111 Welcomes Dr. Nicole Robinson, McCord Principal

Burbank School District 111 is pleased to introduce McCord School's Principal, Dr. Nicole Robinson.  Dr. Robinson began working February 9 and is excited about her opportunity to be part of the Burbank community.  She brings eight years of experience as an assistant principal in Lansing.   

Burbank Park District Seeks Aquatics Supervisor

The Burbank Park District is accepting applications in the role of aquatics supervisor for the upcoming summer 2015 season. Every year the Burbank Water Park draws thousands of people from around the Chicagoland area for family friendly recreation.

St. Baldrick's Day - March 18

Please mark your calendars for our second annual St. Baldrick’s Day event on March 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Liberty Junior High School.  Last year we raised over $20,000 to support research for childhood cancers.  This year each school in the district will have a fundraising team.

LJHS Student Council Valentine's Day Fundraiser

Liberty Junior High School Student Council will be selling Valentine’s Day grams beginning February 2.  They will be sold in the gymnasium before school and are available until supplies run out.

 

Kappa Delta Pi Teacher of Honor

District 111 is pleased to announce that Maddock Teacher, Karen Krzystof-Bansley, has been recognized as a Teacher of Honor by the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education.  The board of education recognized her at the board meeting on January 28. 

2015 Family Health & Wellness Fair

District 111 and Arbor Management are hosting a Family Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday, February 7 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Liberty Junior High School.  Activities include student games and sports, farmers market, Zumba, and free chair massages.

Crossing Guards Wanted! crossin guard

Burbank School District 111 is looking for crossing guards for the current school year.  Crossing guards work two hours daily on school days:  7:20 - 8:20 a.m. and 2:20 - 3:20 p.m.  Training will be provided.  The pay is $10.64 per hour.  Please apply online by clicking employment on the menu bar.

School Board Elections Filing Locations election

The locations, dates and times for school board candidate filing have been finalized. Our downtown office, as well as the election warehouse on the western Chicago border with Cicero, will be open for candidate filing the entirety of the Dec. 15-22 filing period. For the convenience of candidates, we will also offer suburban filing locations on the first day of filing, Dec. 15, when most candidates historically have filed.

Burbank Lion's Club food
The Burbank Lion’s Club is sponsoring the Fourth Annual Food Drive in District 111. With the continued need in our community due to unemployment and homelessness, many families depend upon food pantries to feed their families. The Lion’s Club Food Drive directly benefits Burbank residents, and donations are taken to Our Savior’s Church, which is a PADS site.
YES YOU CAN! - Team Hoyt Letter

YES YOU CAN! At our opening day in 2012 Dr. Fleck shared the story of Team Hoyt with our staff.  Since then, Ms. Papadakis, Teacher at Liberty, has shared the story with her students every August as they set goals for the school year.  This year, students wrote to Dick and Rick Hoyt and recently received a response.  Click here to view the letter from Dick Hoyt.

All Star Games Update

On behalf of Burbank School District 111, we would like to congratulate the Liberty Junior High Patriots for their victory in the championship round over the Tobin Tigers. 
 
We would also like to congratulate the Burbank Bobcats for winning the Spirit Award for having the most enthusiastic fans. 
 
Thank you to everyone that participated, whether you played on the volleyball court or cheered for your team on the sidelines, it was quite a fun event!

Mrs. Jones-Morzuch, You Will Be Missed
We are saddened to announce the passing of Mrs. Debra Jones-Morzuch, teacher at Maddock School. She touched the lives of many students, parents, and staff members during her 27 years with District 111. 

 

 
Our deepest sympathies go out to the Jones-Morzuch Family during this difficult time.

2015 School Board Elections
Burbank School District 111 will have three school board seats to be filled at the April 7, 2015 Consolidated Election. Candidates who are elected will fill four-year terms expiring in April 2019.
