Community Coat Drive coat drive

The Women's Auxiliary Council 14553 of the Knights of Columbus is organizing a community coat drive.   Please donate your gently used coats, scarves, hats, boots, gloves and any winter clothing in all sizes.  The collection boxes will be at Byrd, Fry, Maddock, and Tobin Schools Monday, October 16 through Friday, October 20.  Families in need may pick up items on Saturday, October 21 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at Harnew School, 9101 S. On Saturday, October 21, Burbank School District 111 is hosting the Annual Fall Into Fitness Wellness Fair and 5K Walk/Run.  Join us for the entire 5k race or join us for a few laps!  All fitness levels are encouraged to come out and participate.

We are pleased to introduce Dr. Shestine Gesbocker as the new Assistant Principal at Liberty Junior High School.  Dr. Gesbocker joins us from Indian Prairie District 204 with 18 years of teaching experience.  

 

 

 

Town Hall Meetings - Liberty Addition town hall

District 111 is considering building an addition and moving sixth grade students to Liberty Junior High School.  The district would use its bonding capacity to fund the project.  Moving sixth grade to Liberty would alleviate crowding at elementary schools across the district as well as increase efficiency in curriculum.   Click here for more information. 

 

Reavis HS Fall Arts & Crafts Fair craft fair

Mark your calendars!  The Reavis Fall Arts and Craft Show is Saturday, October 7th from 9 am to 3 pm!  Come and shop for unique gift ideas among hand crafted merchandise and decor, along with some of your favorite vendors.  Concessions are available all day.  The show is hosted by the Reavis Drama Club and all proceeds support their ongoing theatre program.   Click here to view the flyer.

Calling All Future Rams!  Reavis High School's Cheerleading Squad will be hosting a two day cheer camp!  Campers will attend a cheer clinic on September 28 to go over some cheer basics and also learn a routine. Mark your calendars...  Back to School Nights are early this year.  The Back to School Night for elementary schools will be August 15 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.  Having an open house the day before school will give students and families a chance to meet their teacher and drop off school supplies.  Liberty Junior High will host their Back to School Night on August 16 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.  We hope to see you there!

District 111 will be hosting a Back to School Rally again this year on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Liberty Junior High School. All local business and organizations are invited to participate in the mini-vendor fair.  This is the perfect opportunity to advertise your business or spread awareness about your organization.  We will have an area designated for information tables or you can simply walk around and pass out flyers, coupons, or freebies.  We provide the table and chair(s) at no charge.

Last Day of School - Friday, June 2 summer

FRIDAY, June 2nd is the last day of school and a half day of attendance. Elementary students will be released at 11:15 am and junior high students will be released at 11:45 a.m. Report cards will be sent home with students on Thursday. Have a fun and safe summer! See you again in August.

When school is out, thousands of children must search for nutritious meals – and too often these meals cannot be found at home.  USDA’s Summer Food Service Program and Seamless Summer Option help bridge the gap by providing FREE food to children at various sites in the community during the summer.

Fry School invites you to their production of Cinderella Kids on Friday, May 12 at 7:00 pm at Liberty Junior High School.  Tickets are available at the door for $3.00.  Refreshments are available for purchase prior to the play.  All proceeds benefit the Fry Drama Program.

Burbank School District 111's Art Exhibition was held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. The artwork of our outstanding artists was displayed and proudly  exhibited for everyone to view and admire.  Three winners were selected from each school and those pieces are currently on display in the board room at the Administration Building.

Dr. Franzy Fleck, Superintendent, will address the state of the district and school enrollment.  Student enrollment in District 111 has increased from 3,262 in 2011 to 3,601 today.  We would like to seek input from the community regarding school enrollment across the district and long-term planning.

Liberty Junior High School Drama Club presents Singin' In the Rain.  The musical will have two showings:  May 5 at 7:00 pm and May 6 at 7:00 pm.  Tickets are $3 for students and $4 for adults.  Tickets may be purchased at the door.   

Pick-Up/Dump Truck For Sale sale

Burbank School District 111 no longer has substantial need for its dump truck.  For that reason, it intends to sell this truck via a sealed-bid approach.  Click here for description of the vehicle and bid-process.

Reavis Dance Fall Season Tryouts dance

Reavis High School will be holding Fall Season Dance Team Tryouts on May 2.  A dance workshop will be offered on May 1 with two sessions available.  

Teachers' Flea Market sale

In an effort to advance Autism awareness and acceptance at Burbank School District 111, and also throughout our community, teachers, staff, administration, and all of Liberty’s A.E.R.O. students will be wearing their “Au-Some” shirts.  Mrs. Browne, Liberty SPED teacher, has conducted a successful fundraiser to support our A.E.R.O. class stationed at Liberty.

Victor Pacini's purpose is to design unique experiences that inspire and teach children to create, value, and share their confident voice with the world.  He has taken his passion for singing to a new and exciting level by designing life changing inspirational programs for young people.  By incorporating the skills that he mastered while earning a degree in graphic design, he has created several multi-dimensional programs that present thought provoking concepts and lessons through original songs, captivating graphics and images.  He will be inspiring the students at Liberty Junior High School on Friday, April 28th at 2:00 pm as the key note speaker during career day.

Liberty Power Outage lightning

As you know, there were power outage issues at Liberty which resulted in transporting students to Reavis High School today.  We’d like to thank Superintendent Dan Riordan and the Reavis staff, Liberty faculty and staff, district office staff and the Burbank Police Department for their efforts during this situation.  The collaboration between the schools and the community made it a seamless process.  We would also like to thank our families for their patience and cooperation.  The safety and well-being of our students is always a top priority.

Burbank School District 111 is proud to host the Third Annual St. Baldrick’s Day fundraiser event on Wednesday, March 15 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Liberty Junior High.  St. Baldrick’s is an amazing non-profit organization that is devoted to the elimination of pediatric cancers.

District 111 is hosting a district-wide art exhibition on May 2 at Prairie Trails Library.  Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade are eligible to participate.  All entries must be submitted by April 3, 2017. 

Liberty Students Receive Lesson on GMOs via FaceTime gmo

On Friday, February 10, 2017, Liberty Junior High Resource Teacher, Mrs. Browne, invited Genetic Scientist, Mrs. Ehlert, to participate in a class discussion, via a FaceTime conference call, to help address the issue of genetically modified organisms or GMOs.  As a result of this real life experience, so many students were motivated and empowered to keep researching, on their own, and continue on their learning quest about GMOs and other equally important issues in science.

Little Free Libraries library

Burbank School District 111 will be opening eight new Little Free Libraries located outside every school in the district!  You are invited to attend the official dedication at Tobin School 8501 S. Narragansett.  We will introduce the “Literally Loving Literacy” project that has been organized to support and maintain each Little Free Library.  The core mission of this event is to address children’s access to books before and after school and all summer long!  Click here for more information.

Please join us for our upcoming Parent Night on February 7, 2017 at 7:00 pm at Liberty Junior High School.  The topic will be Stress and Children: Creating a Calm Environment.  In today’s rapidly changing world, children face unique social and emotional challenges.  Many children feel increased stress and anxiety.  Educators and parents can assist students in developing a life-long capacity for concentration, patience and resilience.  Professional staff from Sertoma Center will provide parents with the tools they can use to empower their students to engage in techniques to relax their minds and calm their bodies.

Reavis Kiddie Camp Fundraiser dance

Reavis Dance Team is hosting their 2017 Kiddie Camp Fundraiser.  Campers will attend a dance clinic to learn a short routine to perform with the dance team during half time of a varsity basketball game on February 10!

The Reavis Cheerleaders will be sponsoring a Father Daughter Sweetheart Dance on February 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the cafeteria at Reavis High School.  All District 111 K-6 female students and their dads.  

 

 

Young Authors Night author

District 111 is hosting a Young Authors Contest again this year.  The contest is open to all kindergarten through 8th grade students and entries are due January 20.  The Young Authors Contest promotes writing and creativity by encouraging children to write an original story and present it in book form.

5Essentials Survey essentials

Burbank District 111 is once again joining the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in the fourth statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions. The survey provides a unique opportunity for teachers, students, and parents to have a voice in improving their schools. Teachers, students, and parents will be asked to take a 20-minute research-based survey to help identify strengths and weaknesses in their school’s learning environment. This survey will serve as an opportunity for schools to reflect on progress since the last statewide implementation.  Parents, please take this opportunity to respond to the 5Essentials survey now at:  https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/  The deadline is January 16, 2017.

Erin's Law erins law

Governor Pat Quinn signed into law House Bill 6193, or Erin’s Law, on January 24, 2013.  This law mandates that Illinois public schools extend their current mandated educational programs regarding personal safety, abuse education and prevention curriculum to students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grades.  The goal of the law is to teach children to avoid situations that may lead to abuse and to report any instances of abuse they may have endured.

On Friday December 2, 2016 Burbank School District 111 held its Third Annual Talent Show.  The stage was filled with talent from every school.  Almost every seat in the house was filled with family, friends and staff.  We are so proud of all our students that performed in our talent show!
